MapleStory is a popular 2D side-scrolling MMORPG game developed by a South Korean company called Wizet. It’s an old game but it still has crashes like can’t launch. If you encountered the issue, don’t worry, you’re not alone. The post has gathered some working fixes that may help you fix this issue.

Try these fixes:

You don’t have to try them all; just work your way down the list until you find the one that works for you.

  1. Run as administrator
  2. Chang Compatibility Mode
  3. Change System Configuration
  4. Update your driver
  5. Use Registry editor

Fix 1: Run as administrator

This fix worked for some players. It’s easy to try, so I recommend this fix as your first solution.

  1. Close the Nexon launcher.
  2. Right-click on the shortcut and click Properties.
  3. In the Compatibility tab, click Run as administrator.
  4. Relaunch the game.

Fix 2: Chang Compatibility Mode

Many players has reported that changing the compatibility mode would help resolving the problem.

  1. Open C drive > Nexon > Library > Maplestory > appdata.
  2. Open the Maplestory folder and right-click maplestory.exe. Click Properties.
  3. In the Compatibility tab, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 7.
  4. Launch the game to check.

Fix 3: Change System Configuration

  1. Press the Windows logo key + R together to open the Run box.
  2. Type msconfig and press Enter.
  3. Click the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services on the bottom left corner.
  4. Disable all that on the left, beside NVIDIA Display Container.

Fix 4: Update your driver

Updating your drivers might solve the Maplestory won’t launch issue. Windows 10 doesn’t always give you the latest version. But with outdated or wrong drivers, you may encounter issues like crashes, infinite loading and etc. So it’s really important to keep your drivers updating to improve your gaming experience.

There are two ways you can update your driver: manually and automatically.

Option 1 – Manually– You’ll need some computer skills and patience to update your drivers this way, because you need to find exactly the right the driver online, download it and install it step by step.

OR

Option 2 – Automatically (Recommended)– This is the quickest and easiest option. It’s all done with just a couple of mouse clicks – easy even if you’re a computer newbie.

Option 1 – Download and install the driver manually

You can download graphics drivers from the manufacturer official website. Search for the model you have and find the correct driver that suits your specific operating system. Then download the driver manually.

Option 2 – Automatically update drivers

If you don’t have time or patience to manually update your graphics drivers, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

  1. Download and install Driver Easy.
  2. Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
  3. Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.(This requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All. If you don’t want to pay for the Pro version, you can still download and install all the drivers you need with the free version; you just have to download them one at a time, and manually install them, the normal Windows way.)
The Pro version of Driver Easy comes with full technical support.

Fix 5: Use Registry editor

This method should be your final solution cause it has potential risks. You’d better backup files before trying this method.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc together to open Task Manager.
  2. End up all the Nexon files and Maplestory files by clicking End Task.
  3. Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box.
  4. Type regedit and press Enter.
  5. Press Windows key + F together open the search menu.
  6. Type soScreenMode and press Enter.
  7. Change the 0 to 3. Save the change.
  8. Launch the game in compatibility mode and check.

That’s it, hope these fixes would help you solve the problem. If you have any suggestions or working fixes, you’re welcome to leave a comment below.
