Fix 2: Verify the integrity of your game files

Guilty Gear -Strive- could fail to launch when game files are missing or corrupted. To fix this issue, one thing you can do is to verify the integrity of your game files. It can be done with a few simple steps via the Steam client, and here’s how:

  1. Go to your library and find Guilty Gear -Strive. Right-click the game icon then click Properties.
  2. Under the LOCAL FILES tab, click Verify integrity of game files.
  3. Steam will scan your local game files and compare them to the files on the server. If there’s anything missing or damaged, Steam will add or replace them in your game folder.

If repairing game files doesn’t help with your problem, move on to the next fix.

Fix 3: Update your graphics driver

One common reason for game launching failure is an outdated or faulty graphics driver. You’ll need to make sure your graphics driver is up-to-date to make sure it’s functioning properly.

One way to keep your graphics card driver up-to-date is to manually update it via Device Manager. If Windows suggests your driver is up-to-date, you can still check if there’s a newer version and update it in Device Manager. Go to the manufacturer’s website, and search for the latest correct driver. Be sure to choose only drivers that are compatible with your Windows version.

Automatic driver update – If you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to update your driver manually, you can, instead, do it automatically with Driver Easy. Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct driver for your exact video card and your Windows version, then it will download and install it correctly:

  1. Download and install Driver Easy.
  2. Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
  3. Click the Update button next to the flagged graphics card driver to automatically download the correct version of the driver, then you can manually install it (you can do this with the FREE version).

Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. (This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All.)
The Pro version of Driver Easy comes with full technical support.
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at support@drivereasy.com.

Restart your PC for the new driver to take effect. If Guilty Gear -Strive- still won’t launch on your PC, try the next fix.

Fix 4: Check if your system is up-to-date

If your system isn’t up-to-date, there could be bugs and compatibility issues, resulting in the not launching problem of your game. Windows releases patches every now and then, and you need to make sure you’ve installed all the updates. Here’s how:

  1. In the search bar on the taskbar, type update, then click Check for updates.
(If you don’t see the search bar, click the Start button and you’ll find it in the Start menu.)
  2. Windows will scan for available updates. If there are no available updates, you’ll get a You’re up to date sign. In this case, you could also click View all optional updates and install them if needed.

When there are available updates, just click Install updates and wait for the installation to complete.
  3. Restart your PC to let it take effect.

If you’ve updated your system but still can’t run Guilty Gear Strive, move on to the next fix.

Fix 5: Check your antivirus software

This fix is for those using antivirus software for their PCs, so if you don’t use antivirus tools, just jump to the next fix.

Antivirus software is another common reason when a game won’t launch. It’s possible that your game has been blocked by your antivirus tool, or this tool could conflict with the game. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Temporarily turn off the antivirus software, then run Guilty Gear -Strive-. If the game is able to launch now, then you know the antivirus is the problem. If your game still won’t launch, skip to the next fix.
  2. Then, you can add the game to the whitelist of your antivirus software. Every program differs, but you can look for “allow a program”, “whitelist an application”, “add to the exception”, or similar features.
  3. Once your game is added to the whitelist, you should be able to launch the game now. However, if it still doesn’t work, consider contacting your antivirus provider to report the issue.

Fix 6: Perform a clean boot

If the above fixes didn’t help you find the cause of your problem, you can try to perform a clean boot.

A clean boot will start your PC with the minimum sets of services and drivers that Windows requires to run. By doing a clean boot, you’ll be able to identify if there’s any background program interfering with Guilty Gear -Strive-.

Here’s how to perform a clean boot:

  1. In the search bar next to the Start button, type msconfig then click System Configuration.
  2. Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all and OK.
  3. Switch to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
(Windows 7 users: right-click anywhere empty on your taskbar to find the option of task manager.)
  4. Under Startup tab, click each startup item then click Disable until you’ve disabled all startup items.
  5. Restart your PC.

If Guilty Gear -Strive- still won’t start, jump to fix 7 below.

If Guilty Gear -Strive- now launches, this means at least one of the programs you disabled was causing the problem.

Here’s how to find out which one(s):

  1. In the search bar next to the Start button, type msconfig then click System Configuration.
  2. Under the Services tab, tick the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox, then tick the checkboxes in front of the first five items in the list.
    Then click Apply and OK.
  3. Reboot your computer and launch Guilty Gear -Strive-. If it once again won’t launch, then you know that one of the services you ticked above is conflicting with it. If it does launch, then the above five services are fine, and you’ll have to keep looking for the offending service.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 above until you find the service that conflicts with your game.

NOTE: We recommend testing five items in a group since it’s more efficient, but you’re welcome to do it at your own pace.

If you don’t find any problematic services, you’ll need to test the startup items. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click anywhere empty on your taskbar and click Task Manager.
  2. Switch to the Startup tab, and enable the first five startup items.
  3. Reboot and try launching Guilty Gear -Strive-.
  4. Repeat until you find the startup item that’s conflicting with your game.
  5. Disable the problem program and reboot your PC.

Fix 7: Reinstall the game

It can be frustrating to reinstall a big game. But some players were able to solve the problem and run Guilty Gear -Strive- again, so it’s definitely worth trying. Here’s how:

  1. Go to your Steam library, right-click Guilty Gear -Strive-, select Manage then click Uninstall.
  2. Once the game is removed from your PC, restart the Steam client.
  3. Open your Steam library, and find Guilty Gear-Strive-.
  4. Right-click on the game icon then click Install.

Hopefully this article helps you with the problem and you can now launch Guilty Gear -Strive-! If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.
