The first thing you have to do is to check your internet connection. Make sure it’s stable and then test your internet speed. You can use add-ons on Kodi to test your internet speed.
Here we recommend One Nation——an add-on in Kodi. This add-on will be used in Fix 2 & 3 to fix Kodi buffering issue. If you’ve installed One Nation in Kodi, follow the steps below. If you don’t have One Nation, you can read this step-by-step installation tutorial.
- Select Add-ons in the Kodi home screen and click One Nation Portal.

Usually, a large, HD content will require a high speed. If the problem is due to low internet speed, you can try Fix 1.
Fixes for Kodi Buffering Issue
- Stop Kodi buffering issue with a VPN
- Adjust video cache size with One nation
- Clear Kodi cache with One nation
Fix 1: Stop Kodi buffering issue with a VPN
Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) make a promise to users about their unlimited, high-speed internet services. While if you are an average user you will have a good internet speed. But if you’re a heavy streamer, you would be affected by bandwidth throttling.
Even if you are an average user, you may meet Kodi buffering issue while watching live TV streams. The buffering you encounter from live TV add-ons are caused by server overload of the corresponding add-ons.
The two situations can be fixed with one method–get a good VPN (Virtual Private Network). Through VPN, your ISP doesn’t know what you are streaming. VPN can lead you directly to the server without passing by the ISP to reduce the speed loss and avoid the restrictions. Using a VPN helps you in securing your privacy as well.
You can use the VPN you already have, if you don’t have one, it’s recommended to use NordVPN.
NordVPN can bypass geo-restrictions to get all add-ons desired, keeps you protected from snooping eyes, and secures your data to keep your online activity private. It’s safe and easy to use!
- Download NordVPN in your device. (You can get 75% OFF right now!)
- Run NordVPN and open it.
- Connect to a server in a chosen location.
Fix 2: Adjust video cache size with One nation
One way to fix the Kodi buffering issue is to expand the video cache size. Increasing the size of the cache in Kodi can help you reduce buffering. It is because the cache is like a reservoir, the bigger it is, the more stuff can be saved and you’ll get a smooth viewing experience.
- Select Add-ons in the Kodi home screen and click One Nation Portal.
- Click Maintenance.
- Click System Tweaks/Fixes.
- Click Quick Configure AdvancedSettings.xml.
- Adjust the video cache size and then click Write file.
- Restart Kodi and check the buffering problem is still there or not.
Fix 3: Clear Kodi cache with One nation
Besides expanding the cache size, you can use clearing Kodi cache to fix the issue. The cache is like a reservoir, the temp files are like rocks in the reservoir. When the reservoir is filled with the stream you need, you’ll get constantly fluent streaming. But if there’s rock inside, the stream will slow down and you’ll encounter the Kodi buffering issue. So, clearing cache to leave more space can fix the Kodi buffering problem.
- Select Add-ons in the Kodi home screen and click One Nation Portal.
- Click Maintenance.
- Click Cleaning Tools.
- Choose Clear Cache. Or choose Total Clean Up, which also helps to play videos smoothly in Kodi.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the process.
- Restart Kodi and check whether the buffering issue is still here or not.
We hope these methods can help you solve the Kodi buffering issue. And it would be very nice if you share your opinion with us below.
