How to Open Command Prompt as Administrator in Windows 10, 8 & 8.1

Sometimes we need to open command prompt to run some utilities. And some utilities only can be run with administrator permission. Here you will learn how to open command prompt as administrator in Windows 10, 8 & 8.1.

Follow steps below (apply to Windows 10, 8 & 8.1):

1. Press Win+X (Windows logo key and X key) at the same time. 
2. Click Command Prompt (Admin) in the pop-up menu.

3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, Click Yes to confirm that the action it displays is what you want.

    If you cannot get the Command Prompt (ADMIN) try left clicking on Windows PowerShell (Admin) then click YES then type in sfc /scannow

    I have Windows 10 but WIN+X doesn’t bring up the menu shown. There is no Command Prompt option to select and searching windows results in no result.

    Doesn’t work for me. Account Control dialogue box doesn’t appear and the command prompt box still refuses to accept me as an administrator. So I still can’t fix my scanner!

      Make sure you click on Command prompt Admin and not Command Prompt.
