How can I make my external Seagate hard drive show up again?

You may not need to try them all, just work your way down until you find the one works for you.

1: Try A Different USB Port

Method 1: Try A Different USB Port

Unplug your Seagate hard drive from its current port, and plug it into a working USB port, for instance, the one for your mouse.

If you have another well-functioning computer, try plug your Seagate hard drive to that computer and see if the problem persists.

If your Seagate external hard drive can be recognized via another USB port, problem solved, all you need to do is reconnect your hard drive to another port.

If your Seagate external hard drive won’t work in neither situations, your hard drive could be at fault. You might need to consult the technical support of Seagate to see if your data in the hard drive can be retrieved somehow.

On Windows 10, my external seagate drive shows up as Disk 1 with no drive letter. When I try to change/add a drive letter those choices are greyed out (this is my home PC). I tried all the suggestions above with no success. The last PC I used my seagate drive with was a MAC, don’t know if this make a difference or not.

      Hi Marc,

      So sorry about what happened.

Could you please tell me if there is any exclamation mark or question mark in your Device Manager? If so, would you please take a screen shot of your Device Manager and then send it back to me? Thanks a lot for your help in advance. Look froward to helping you with this problem.
