After updating the driver, reboot your Windows 10 and try to adjust the brightness again to see if it works. If unluckily it still cannot work, follow Solution 2 please.

Solution 2. Use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter software

Follow the step 1 & 2 of Solution 1 again to open Device Manager and locate your display adapter.
Also right-click on your display adapter to choose Update driver.

This time choose Browse my computer for driver software.

Go on to choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

Click Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
Then click Next to continue.

Now your Windows 10 will install Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. When it’s done, reboot your Windows 10 and try again to adjust the brightness, the issue should be fixed now.
